From our earliest days using stickers to signify dealership locations on paper maps to today\u2019s sophisticated, tech-driven capabilities and solutions, our scientific approach and global team members have always defined who we are. Across regions, roles and decades, Urban Scientists have consistently delivered curiosity, expertise and a shared commitment to turning hidden insights into tangible business opportunities for our clients, including automotive manufacturers and dealers, and the AdTech firms that support them, around the world.<\/p>\n

That heritage traces back to our founder and chairman of the board, Jim Anderson, and his unwavering principles: leverage science, satisfy customers completely, be a wonderful place to grow a career and build a company capable of leading clients through our industry\u2019s many evolutions and revolutions.<\/p>\n

The Beginning: Using Science to Solve Problems Thought to Be Unsolvable<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Urban Science story began long before the company opened its doors.<\/p>\n

While teaching and conducting research at Wayne State University, Jim engaged in pioneering work related to computer mapping and environmental modeling. At a time when this technology was still in its infancy, he saw possibilities that extended far beyond academic research.<\/p>\n

That vision came to life when a former student connected Jim with her company: Cadillac. Her project required mapping tens of thousands of customer locations manually using stickers placed on paper maps. Jim believed there was a better way. By inventing computer mapping techniques and incorporating repeatable scientific rigor, he helped solve a challenge many said was unsolvable, laying the groundwork for what would become Urban Science.<\/p>\n

The experience also established a mindset that would shape our company’s future: listen to our clients, seek out problems that haven\u2019t been solved yet, embrace complexity, challenge assumptions and let science and entrepreneurism lead the way.<\/p>\n

Built in Detroit, Powered by Science<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Detroit has always been central to the Urban Science story. It\u2019s where Jim studied, taught and ultimately founded the company. It\u2019s also where we tapped into the homegrown automotive talent that has long defined the region, attracting Urban Scientists past and present whose industry expertise continues to differentiate our organization today.<\/p>\n

As the automotive industry transformed, our company evolved alongside it \u2014 helping clients adapt to changing market conditions, shifting consumer expectations and new technologies. Through every change, our company remained committed to the principles that fueled our early success: combining the industry\u2019s best data, rigorous methodologies and practical expertise to create measurable business value with a vision for inventing the future.<\/p>\n

ChannelVantage Celebrates 25 Years <\/strong><\/h3>\n

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of ChannelVantage (CVI), Urban Science’s wholly owned affiliate that exclusively supports General Motors, the firm\u2019s first client.<\/p>\n

The milestone reflects a quarter-century of dedicated strategic collaboration, innovation and measurable results with General Motors.<\/p>\n
